Golden State’s new head coach is Dunleavy.
The Golden State Warriors announced on Sunday that they have named Mike Dunleavy Jr. as the team’s new head coach, moving from his role as assistant general manager.
Golden State owner Joe Lacob said in a statement, “We believe Mike Dunleavy Jr. is the perfect person to lead our organization. He has been a player for 15 years. He also spent five years working under former head coach Bob Myers and gained a wealth of basketball knowledge. He’s young, he’s a great communicator, and he’s ready to go.”메이저놀이터
Dunleavy was drafted by Golden State with the third overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft. After nearly 15 years as a player, he reconnected with the organization in 2018 as a scout.
After seeing what he could do, the Warriors made him an assistant general manager. During this time, Dunleavy assisted Myers and gained a lot of experience running the organization, according to owner Jacob. As a result, Dunleavy succeeded Myers as Golden State’s head coach.
Dunleavy will be tasked with recreating Golden State’s golden era.
The Warriors built a dynasty in the mid-to-late 2010s and became one of the NBA’s most dominant franchises. The Warriors were able to do so in large part because of Myers’ ability to run the organization.
Myers drafted players like Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes. He also signed big names like Kevin Durant, laying the groundwork for a dynasty.
Golden State is currently at a crossroads. Last season, the Warriors entered the season as the defending champions, but fell short in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs. As a result, some have suggested that the Warriors need to overhaul their roster.
The main issue is the re-signing of Green, the centerpiece of Golden State’s system. They also have to decide where to keep youngsters like Jordan Poole and Jonathan Cuminga. All this while managing the massive luxury tax efficiently.
It will be interesting to see if Dunleavy can lead Golden State back to the golden age.
