After leading his Syracuse University team to the NCAA Championship in 2003, Anthony began his professional career when he was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the third overall pick in the first round of that year’s draft.

A 10-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA selection, he led the league in scoring in 2012-13, averaging 28.7 points per game.
Represented the United States in four Olympic Games, winning three gold and one bronze medal. He scored 37 points against Nigeria at the London 2012 Olympic Games, setting the record for most points scored by an individual in an Olympic game for the U.S. men’s basketball team.
In a video message on Twitter, he said, “I remember a time when all I had was a ball on the court and a dream to achieve more. Basketball was my outlet. My purpose was strong. I played with pride, I played for my city and community, and I played for the fans who stood by my side. I am grateful for all the places and people that made me Carmelo Anthony.”
The passion and sweat he put in on the court has now been passed down to the next generation. His son, Kiyan, is now a highly regarded shooting guard in high school.
“People ask me about my legacy,” he says. “People ask me about my legacy,” he says, “but it’s not about my accomplishments on the court, like awards and accolades. Because my story has always been about more than basketball. My legacy is my son. My legacy will always live on through him. It’s my turn to pass the torch to you,” he said, adding that he looks forward to watching his son grow.
