The ‘Basketball Empress’ is back. With the long-awaited title of director.

Park Chan-sook (64), senior vice president of the Korea Unemployed Basketball Federation, returns to the court after 18 years. He was named the first commanding tower of the Seodaemun-gu Women’s Business Basketball Team, which will be founded in March.스포츠토토

This is the first time coach Park has coached a single team, whether professional, business or school.

Coach Park, who met at the Seodaemun Culture and Sports Center in Hongeun-dong, Seoul on the 7th, said, “(Unified team leader) has been my long-held dream. I did not give up, so my long-held dream came true.” I want to show you fun ‘attack basketball'”

During his active career, coach Park was an all-around big man who was adept at playing as a forward as well as a center with a height of 190 cm and an unrivaled basketball sense. In the 1980s, he showed off the ability of a big man required in modern basketball with a long shot distance, extraordinary sense of passing, and active participation in the fast break.

As the youngest national women’s basketball player, she contributed to four consecutive Asian women’s basketball championships and had a brilliant career, winning a silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

However, the baton was not easily granted to him who had a brilliant career. In the late 1990s, he coached his parents’ team, Pacific Chemicals, and in 2005, coached the East Asian Games national team, but this is the first time he has been in charge of a single team.

The Seodaemun District Office basketball team led by coach Park is the first Seoul-based women’s basketball team in both the professional and business stages. The National Unemployment Basketball Federation, which will be held in Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do in May, is expected to be the debut stage for ‘Director Park Chan-sook’.

He said, “As a basketball person, I am grateful to the Seodaemun-gu Office for making a ‘big decision’.” “I want to become a coach who informs the residents of (basketball) the best part of (basketball) with interesting offensive basketball and steadily maintains good team performance. In addition, I want to develop my player skills. It is also my goal as a leader to lead the way as a pro.”

The following is Q&A with Park Chan-suk, head coach of the women’s basketball team at Seodaemun-gu Office.

-You were inaugurated as the first coach of the Seodaemun-gu women’s basketball team. How do you feel?

I’ve always dreamed of being a director. (I waited for a long time) but I am happy that my dream has come true. In the meantime, he served as national team coach and Pacific Chemistry playing coach, but this is the first time as a unified team coach. It wasn’t that I didn’t challenge the professional team leader. He was unable to fulfill his wish, but as he worked hard without losing his dream, he took the baton (after 18 years). So the joy is greater.

-Regardless of the sport, there are hardly any leaders in their 60s these days. The inauguration of ‘Park Chan-sook, born in 1959’ seems to be meaningful in this respect as well.

right. Looking at the age of current leaders, most of them are in their 40s and 50s. Compared to the past, this is an amazing change. One day, this atmosphere suddenly formed. Isn’t there a word called old age? power cannot be ignored.

I too was being treated as an elder from some point. I was afraid to think, ‘Isn’t the speed of (generational change) a bit fast’ or ‘I haven’t achieved my dream of becoming a director yet’. Of course, I was afraid, but I did not forget my dream. I waited (for the opportunity) firmly believing that ‘my dream will come true someday’. It’s late, but this is the start. Right now, my head is really busy thinking about this season (laughs).

-It seems that the Unemployment League match in May will be her debut. I’m curious about the goal of the first competition.

Isn’t it a world of winning? The goal, of course, is to win. However, it will not be easy for the Seodaemun-gu Women’s Basketball Team to win the championship as this is their first year. I think there will also be an attribute of time to experience (the stage of unemployment).

I don’t know the players yet, and the players don’t even know each other. You have to get to know each other by matching your play and experiencing how your hands and feet fit better. I also sit on a bench for the first time in a while, so I think it will be a ‘great experience’ in many ways.

– During the tryout within this month, what aspect of the participants do you plan to pay attention to the most?

The first priority is the kidneys. Without looking at anything else, I plan to select the tallest player among the participating players. Basketball must have a ‘center’ unconditionally. Basketball without a center is easy to falter.

Next comes the basics. If the basics are well polished, you can (easily) hone all the skills of basketball. The basics are not good, but if you master the skill, you will get hurt. Increased chance of injury Basketball is, after all, three things: shooting, dribbling, and passing. Once you have the basics, these three elements become easier. It is necessary to carefully look at the kidneys and basic skills.

-If you could explain ‘Park Chan-sook’s basketball’ to be shown at Seodaemun-gu Office.

Park Chan-sook’s basketball is attacking basketball. Isn’t everyone around you talking? You have to play defensive basketball, you have to play defensive basketball to win the championship. I’m not. I believe that offensive basketball will attract more fans and improve team performance.

The attack is not just an attack, but an offense based on a clear pattern of ‘using a certain play in a certain way to score’. The No Look Pass doesn’t just come out. It is a play that can come out only when you understand the passing path through practice.

-Is Seodaemun-gu Office’s ‘going professional’ also one of your goals as a manager?

Of course. one of my dreams The players participating in this tryout are children who did not go to the pros and whose names were not called in the draft. In addition, there will be many friends who have graduated from high school and have been unable to go to college.

In other words, they are players who still want to play basketball but have nowhere to go. I have a desire to teach such friends and improve their skills enough to go pro. What else could be better than that (laughs). I want to become a coach who can help and give hope to young players in their ‘second challenge’.

-The establishment of Seodaemun-gu Office is expected to be of considerable help in revitalizing women’s basketball in Korea. What do you think as a basketball player?

There are so many people who have helped in this creation. There was a lot of hard work by many people, including Lee Seong-heon, head of Seodaemun-gu Office, and Han Sang-ho, a professor at Sangmyung University (who is active in the founding preparation committee). Without these people, the creation of the unemployment team would not have been easy. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have worked hard to develop sports in the district. I believe it will be of great help to the women’s basketball world.

-Seodaemun-gu has been working hard to promote sports for everyday life, such as the free opening of Yonsei University Stadium from this year. This establishment is also read as part of the development of sports in the autonomous district. As an athlete, how do you evaluate Seodaemun-gu’s move?

(As an athlete) Thank you so much. With the establishment of the unemployment team, women’s basketball was revitalized and it also led to job creation. I am very grateful for giving players a space to play. So, more responsibility. I will do my best unconditionally to repay the efforts of Seodaemun-gu, including Mayor Lee Seong-heon.

– I wonder if there is a willingness to actively participate if a place with residents is arranged.

Of course. I want to actively meet and plan to do so again. (After the news of the director’s inauguration was announced) the residents cheered me on a lot. I also feel a sense of unity that I have become a citizen of Seodaemun-gu. I feel really good and happy about this. When I walk down the street, people really welcome me. If there is a seat, I would like to attend and increase skinship with the residents.
