The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced the 2023 Asian Cup schedule on its official website on the 5th (Korean time). The competition starts on January 12, 2024 and ends on February 10, 2024.
The draw for the 24 finalists will be held on May 12 in Doha, Qatar.
Originally, the Asian Cup was scheduled to be held in China this summer, but Qatar held the tournament after China returned the hosting rights due to the spread of Corona 19. Korea also hoped to host the tournament, but unfortunately failed to win the right to host it because it was pushed by Qatar.
Korea, along with coach Klinsman, will challenge to win the Asian Cup for the first time in 64 years. It is also Klinsmann’s first international stage.
Coach Klinsman, who was selected as the successor to coach Paulo Bento on February 27 and signed a contract for about 3 years and 5 months until the 2026 World Cup finals in North and Central America, is expected to be put on the first test through this competition and even receive an interim evaluation.
Meanwhile, Qatar, which succeeded in hosting the Asian Cup, is also the country where the World Cup was held last year. Because of this, most of the stadiums used during the World Cup are used. Education City Stadium, where Korea’s World Cup Round of 16 miracle took place, was also included as an Asian Cup stadium.
