The Japanese baseball team faced the bad news of an injury in front of the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), which opens on the 8th of next month.

According to MLB.com and Reuters, Seiya Suzuki (29) did not attend the Chicago Cubs training on the 27th (Korean time).

He was reported to have injured his left flank during an exhibition game against the San Francisco Giants on the 26th. He subsequently underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan at the hospital.

“We have to wait and see,” Cubs manager David Ross said.

He added, “(Until then) I don’t want to comment on anything related to the WBC.”

Originally, Suzuki was scheduled to join the Japanese baseball team in early March while digesting spring camp training.안전놀이터

Suzuki is Japan’s leading hitter who entered the big league in the 2022 season after winning the batting king twice in Japanese professional baseball.

He played in 111 games last year and maintained his starting position with a batting average of 0.262, 14 homers and 46 RBIs.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he also led the championship as the 4th hitter for the Japanese national team.
