On the 15th (Korean time), Jeon Woong-tae won the silver medal by scoring 1510 points in the men’s individual final of the 2023 International Modern Pentathlon (UIPM) World Cup 2nd competition held in Ankara, Turkey. It is Jeon Woong-tae who scored 1181 points in Group B of the preliminaries and advanced to the semi-finals with 2nd place in Group B and 6th place overall. He continued his good performance in the semifinals in Group B with 1186 points, 4th in Group B and 4th overall, reaching the final. In the finals, he got off to a good start by coming in 3rd place in fencing (240 points, 23 wins and 12 losses), and also finished 5th in swimming (309 points, 2 minutes 00 seconds 61). He ranked 4th in horseback riding (300 points), with a difference of only 12 points from first place Shaban, but unfortunately, he finished 12th in laser run (land + shooting) (661 points, 10 minutes 39 seconds 50).
Teammate Seo Chang-wan was in 4th place (1495 points) and Park Woo-jin was in 9th place (1482 points), unfortunately failing to win the prize. In the women’s division, Leva Serafinaite (Lithuania, 1386 points) won the championship, while Jang Ha-eun and Sung Seung-min were ranked 9th (1356 points) and 12th (1338 points), respectively.
In an interview with UIPM after the tournament, Jeon Woong-tae said, “Since this is the first tournament this season, I am still only 80% in physical condition. I was a bit nervous, but I am happy to win the silver medal,” he said. “I have a good memory of winning the gold medal at the World Cup Finals in Ankara last year. I am scheduled to participate in the Budapest World Cup in Hungary on the 25th, and I hope there will be good results.”
