Kia Tigers’ foreign-born batter Socrates Brito hit back-to-back home runs and won a car.
Socrates hit back-to-back arches in his first and second at-bats against the SSG Landers on 7 July at the Gwangju-Kia Champions Field.
Socrates, batting third, lifted a fastball just outside the zone from SSG starter Baek Seung-gun over the centre field fence in the bottom of the first inning. It was a 125-metre solo shot (No. 7). Choi Hyung-woo followed with a back-to-back home run to right-centre field.
The Socrates’ home run barrage didn’t stop there. Another one came right after starter Yang Hyun-jong gave up three runs in the top of the third inning to fall behind 2-3.스포츠토토
Ryu Ji-hyuk walked and Park Chan-ho hit a double into the right-field corner to put runners on second and third with no outs. Seung-gun Baek’s three-pitch fastball followed a similar course to the first inning, and he pulled it hard. The ball sailed over the right-centre fence in a large parabola and landed above the ‘Niro Home Run Zone’.
Every year, Kia Motors sets up a home run zone for each car model in the grass seats in right-centre field and gives the player who hits it a car. Regardless of the home or away team, players can win the car.
This year, the Niro Zone is a small SUV. Socrates became the first player to hit the home run zone this year.
He also won 2 million won in cash by taking over the ‘Ink Coffee Home Run Zone’ on the outfield fence.
