A 14-year-old first-year middle school student almost had a major accident at the Hwaseong Mayor Cup 3-Cushion Competition held last weekend. Kim Hyeon-woo (14, Suwon Chilbo Middle School), who had been learning billiards for less than a year, presented an extraordinary feat of advancing to the final by winning against veterans in the 3-cushion national billiards competition. Kim Hyun-woo participated in the 2023 Hwaseong Market Cup 3-Cushion Competition held for two days from April 15th and took second place. This is an achievement that Kim Hyeon-woo started playing billiards for a year and learned it properly for only 10 months.
Introducing himself as a ‘1st grade billiards dreamer’, he confidently said, “Playing billiards made me feel happy and fun. He will become a great player.”
Kim Hyun-woo met with veterans from the round of 32 to the semi-finals and won all of them, drawing attention. Regarding this, he said, “I came in with the mindset of playing a game that I won’t regret.”
He continued, “I started playing billiards while playing online billiards with my father,” he explained about his introduction.
Kim Hyeon-woo, who picked ‘the thrill and sense of achievement that immerses you in as you go’ as the charm of billiards, visits the billiards club every day for training. The role model he revealed is Cho Myung-woo, the winner of the 2022 Sharm El Sheikh 3-Cushion World Cup.
Lastly, Kim Hyun-woo said boldly, “I will continue to become a world-class player with the title of billiards player and let many people know the sport of billiards.”
