Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels) hit again for the second time in two games. Masataka Yoshida (Boston Red Sox) was silent.

Ohtani started in the No. 3 spot in the lineup and went 1-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday (April 24) at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA.

The Angels took the lead in the bottom of the first on a leadoff single by Mickey Moniak. After Mike Trout struck out, Ohtani stepped up to the plate. Ohtani hit a grounder in front of the first baseman. He then scored on a wild pitch. Starter Brian Bello covered the bases, but Ohtani had quick feet. But Hunter Renfroe hit a grounder to the second baseman. Ohtani was thrown out at second base. Jared Walsh followed with a single to put runners on first and second, but Landon Drury struck out to end the threat.

Yoshida stepped to the plate for the second time in the top of the third with the bases loaded, but was stranded on a fly ball to center field. Ohtani stepped to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the third, but was stranded on a grounder to first base.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Angels added a run. Leadoff hitter Matt Tice took a Bello sinker up the middle and sent it over the center field fence.

Yoshida was out in his third at-bat in the top of the sixth on a fly ball to left field. Ohtani came up to bat in the bottom of the sixth. Ohtani hit a line drive to Yoshida in left field that Yoshida made a solid catch to end the inning.

In the seventh inning, both starting pitchers continued to pitch well. Angels starter Griffin Canning pitched seven scoreless innings with two hits, three walks and five strikeouts, while Boston starter Bello pitched seven innings with two runs (two earned), six hits (two homers) and six strikeouts.

In the top of the eighth, the Angels brought up reliever Matt Moore. Moore got Yoshida to ground into a double play with runners on first and second.

Boston brought in Joelie Rodriguez in the bottom of the eighth. Rodriguez walked, but pinch-hitter Taylor Ward singled and stole second base. Trout followed with a two-run homer. Ohtani struck out, but Renfroe singled and Walsh walked to put runners on first and second. Eventually, Boston made a pitching change to Justin Gaza.

Gaza got Drury to fly out to right field. Renfroe then tagged up and stole third base. With runners on second and third, Gaza struck out Tice to end the threat.

The Angels sent Jacob Webb to the mound in the top of the ninth. Webb struck out Justin Turner, Rafael Devers, and Jarron Duran to preserve the win.
