Manchester United have made a counter-offer for Donny van der Beek to AS Roma.
In the 2022-23 season, the Red Devils rebuilt under Eric ten Haag. They let go of veterans like Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata, and got rid of players who didn’t contribute to the team, like Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard. In their place, the likes of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, and Anthony have been added to the squad.
The results were positive. United finished third in the league and qualified for the UEFA Champions League (UCL). In the English FA Cup, they reached the final, and in the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup), they beat Newcastle United 2-0 to lift the trophy for the first time in six years.안전놀이터
For the 2023-24 season, United’s goals are even higher. They want multiple trophies, and they want to finish at the top of the league, something they haven’t done since the 2012-13 season.
In response, Van Gaal is working hard to organize his squad. He has been linked with a number of key players, including Harry Kane and Kim Min-Jae, and is very close to signing Axel Dijkstra. Other names on the transfer list include Mason Mount and Jordan Pickford.
At the same time, the club is also looking to sell surplus resources. One such player is Van der Beek. According to Italian publication Di Marzio, United have offered AS Roma a reverse loan deal for Van der Vaart. The deal is expected to take a few days, as Roma do not consider van der Vaart a top priority.
He was a protégé of Van Gaal. He rose to prominence at Ajax and was one of the players who, alongside Van Gaal, led the team to a UCL top-four finish in the 2018-19 season. He then joined United for a modest €39 million and was expected to make an impact.
But he didn’t make the cut. Completely ignored by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he made 36 appearances in his first year at the club, including cup competitions, but played less than 1500 minutes. The situation didn’t change in 2021-22, and he was sent out on loan to Everton in the second half of the season. He made seven appearances and scored one goal during his loan spell, and with the news of Van Gaal’s arrival at the club ahead of the 2022-23 season, there were hopes that he would be able to establish himself.
However, it didn’t materialize. Van Gaal didn’t utilize van der Vaart. Or, more accurately, he didn’t. A knee injury in the second half of the season ruled him out for the season, limiting him to 10 appearances, including a cup run. His role naturally diminished and he eventually became a surplus resource, and now, ahead of the 2023-24 season, van der Vaart is preparing to part ways with the club as he is listed for sale.
