Hosts Argentina and North and Central American giants USA have advanced to the round of 16 at the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 after topping their respective groups.
Argentina recorded a convincing 5-0 win over New Zealand in the final Group A match of the tournament at the San Juan Stadium on 27 July.

New Zealand, who finished third in the group with one win, one draw and one loss (four points), can still qualify for the round of 16 depending on other group results.

The United States also secured a spot in the round of 16 after winning all three of their matches in Group B.
The Americans defeated Slovakia 2-0 in their third Group B match at San Juan Stadium.

As group winners, the USA will play the round of 16 against one of the top three teams from groups A, C and D.
Cade Kerwell scored his second consecutive goal and the game-winner, while Nikolas Tsakiris added a late stoppage-time winner.
In other action, Ecuador thrashed Fiji 9-0 to take second place in Pool B (6-2-1).
Slovakia dropped to third place with three points (D1 L2).
