English Premier League (EPL) Wolverhampton midfielder Hwang Hee-chan’s (27) fellow midfielder Heuren Neves (26) looks set to leave Europe at an early age. Neves’ next destination is Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal.
“Wolverhampton have accepted Al Hilal’s £47 million bid for Neves,” Sky Sports said on Sept. 19, adding that “personal negotiations will not be an issue.”
The move is not as expected. Neves had been linked with Manchester United and FC Barcelona (Spain) in the second half of the 2022-23 season. With only one year left on his contract at Wolverhampton, Neves had decided to leave the club at the end of the season and was expected to move on for a decent fee.

However, with Al Hilal as his next destination, it looks like he will be leaving Europe at an early age.
Neves, who began his career with FC Porto’s youth system, made his England debut in 2017 at the age of 20. Although Wolverhampton were in the Premier League Championship (second tier) at the time, Neves caught the attention of fans with his excellent kicking and mid-range shooting. In his debut season alone, he scored six goals in 42 games to help the team win promotion. The team re-signed him a year later.
Wolverhampton won promotion shortly after Neves’ signing and stayed in the Premier League for the next five seasons. In 253 games in a Wolverhampton shirt, Neves has scored 30 goals and provided 13 assists in a key midfield role. This season, he’s done the same with six goals and one assist in 41 games.

In the end, though, Wolverhampton never made it to Europe. Despite the huge investment, the team finished mid-table. Neves will now take on a new challenge in Saudi Arabia.
